Pay It Forward

Week #2:

I chose this organization because quite frankly, who doesn't like an organization that serves over 2 million people world wide? My friend, Dan, is going on his third international trip in December for Habitat. (You rock, Dan!) His stories have been incredible and you can tell he has a sense of pride when it comes to being a part of it all. I would love to one day go abroad and join the club, but first I'm going to get involved on a more local level. I hope you take a minute to check out this website and see how easy it is to get involved! Below are some photos of Dan doing his part in Cambodia.

Remember- my donations are based on your comments. Looking back on the first week, I see that some of you commented or "liked" on Facebook because it takes some time to subscribe on here and comment. That's totally okay with me. I'll accept both... so, comment and "like" away you FB addicts! But just a reminder, it only takes a min to sign up and "follow" me on here. ;) I'm pleased to say that I'm mailing out a check to SafeHouse Denver for $10. Not bad for the first go around. Let's make this week the full $15! Happy Monday to you all....

This part of my blog is definitely the one I'm most excited about! My mind was racing the other night as I tried to think of ways I could become more philanthropically involved, and somehow have you be a part of it. Then I had one of those "Ah-ha!" moments - I could donate to different charities, both locally and around the world, based on your involvement.

So here's my goal. Each week (most likely on Sunday), I will feature a new organization under this tab. Feel free to check out the site, learn something new, and get involved. Then be sure to post a comment on my blog. It can be anything... saying you like the organization, you've been involved with them before, or just a simple "Hello!". For each comment posted under that week's featured site I will donate $1 to that organization. Now, since I don't have a money tree growing in the backyard (bummer!), I do have a weekly cap set at $15. It may seem small, but just think, by November 2012 I will have donated just under $800... and all due to your participation! I know that it may take a while to gain some followers and receive comments, but I'm hopeful that eventually I will be giving the maximum amount. :)

Many thanks - now let's go make a difference!

Here's the first feature!

It's hard to choose between so many great non profits, but that's the beauty of this opportunity. So, I've chosen SafeHouse Denver as the first week's organization. Growing up I was surrounded by domestic violence. I can't tell you how many times my sister, brother, and I would hide in our rooms or go play outside as our Mom suffered from abuse. The cops would show up every now and then (that's a whole separate story to touch on), but I would always hope that there was a place for us to go and escape the chaos. Well, SafeHouse Denver provides exactly that. They are the only shelter in the city and county of Denver that exclusively serves victims of domestic violence.

Take a peek at their site and help me donate by posting a comment below. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday evening!

ps- Love you so much, Mammy. You're the strongest woman I know.
